Nearly four years after a Vanderbilt data scientist’s murder rocked the East Nashville community, many people who knew and loved him have been left with more questions than answers.
A spokesperson for the Metro Nashville Police Department said there have been “no new updates” since Lane was shot and killed on his porch on Aug. 11, 2020. His murder remains under investigation but has now been assigned to the police department’s Cold Case Unit.
Initially, detectives said it appeared to be a targeted shooting, but they still have not named any suspects. It had just grown dark when the shooting happened around 9 p.m. at Lane’s townhouse off Colbert Way and Rosebank Avenue.
