Wanted: Adam Emery

Nearly 25 years after he disappeared, Adam Emery is still on the FBI’s “Most Wanted” list.

In 1993, Emery was convicted of murdering 20 year old Jason Bass. Emery was allowed to remain free on bail pending formal sentencing a month later. Just hours after his conviction, both Adam Emery and his wife, Elena, appeared to be dead.

The couple’s car was found abandoned on the Newport Bridge above Narrangansett Bay in Rhode Island and, at first glance, it appeared the couple had committed suicide. The search for the bodies of Adam and Elena Emery was one of the most extensive in the history of Rhode Island. In the end, not a single scrap of evidence was recovered from the bay. Authorities wondered if Adam Emery had staged his own death.

Months later Elena Emery’s remains were found by a fisherman working in the bay. No sign of Adam Emery has ever been found. To this day, Jason Bass’ family believes that Emery is still alive.

At the time of his disappearance, Adam Emery was 195 pounds, 6’1” tall, with blue eyes and black hair.
