Sunday, May 12 will be an emotional Mother’s Day for one Rockford woman as she will host a balloon release for her son Shaquille who would have celebrated his 29th birthday that day.
Innette Zackery’s son, Shaquille, was shot on October 19, 2013 in the 1200 block of Winnebago Street while on his way home from a party. He died in the hospital four days later. He leaves behind a now 11-year-old daughter, who was just eight months old when Shaquille was killed.
“He went back to help his friend. His friend had got shot in the leg and that’s when my son got shot in his chest going back to help his friend. I’m never going to forget that,” says Innette.
