After nearly five and a half years, Kris Bryant’s family is still seeking answers. Someone shot and killed the 49-year-old in his home on Bowen Blanks Drive in the Riegelwood area of Columbus County. A relative found Bryant’s body on the morning of August 13, 2019, after noticing his car had not moved from the night before. No one has ever faced charges of the crime.
“To me, he was Superman,” said Antonio Williams, Bryant’s son. “I watched him take care of me, my mother at times, his mother, all in the same house. He had unconditional love for me. They took something from me that I can’t replace.”
Kris Bryant did have a criminal past dating back to 1989. Most of the offenses were related to drugs. Family members believe, though, that he had turned his life around since getting out of prison in 2017, just about two years to the day that he died. Whether any of those offenses played a role in his murder is unknown, according to investigators with the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office who are working on the case.
