The Franklin Police Department is investigating possible new leads in a 34-year-old cold case involving the shooting death of a Hardee’s employee.

During the department’s APB Podcast on Oct. 8, Detective Matt Thompson told Public Information Manager Max Winitz he and other law enforcement officials are continuing to investigate the murder of Peggy Cox, who was shot to death in the drive-thru window of the Hardee’s at 1315 Murfreesboro Road on her 49th birthday on Feb. 1, 1991.

“I’ve recently been joined in this investigation by a partner of mine, Detective Dillon Lipinsky,” Thompson said. “He’s helped me a lot in this case. There are some leads that we have uncovered that may help us shed some light on what happened that night. It does involve some incarcerated people. It involves crimes in other counties. But ultimately it’s going to have to come down to interviews and personal references of certain individuals.”
