Washington County detectives have announced plans to reexamine the 1994 homicide of 85-year-old Veta Hardebeck.

Hardebeck was found dead outside her home on a rural Gaston farm on Feb. 16, 1994. Hardebeck lived alone and was initially believed to have died from a medical condition or an accident.

Hardebeck’s daughter, Caroline Ledbury, said her mother’s body had been staged to look like an accident.
