The mystery of the “Yuba County Five” remains unsolved decades after five men from Marysville vanished in the Sierra foothills in 1978. Four were later found dead, while Gary Mathias is still missing.
Mathias and his friends, all with mental disabilities, attended a college basketball game in Chico on February 24, 1978. They were last seen at Behr’s Market, now Downtown Liquor and Market, where they bought soda and candy for the drive home to Marysville.
