A man who called himself “Dan Cooper” paid cash for a one-way ticket to Seattle at the Northwest Orient Airlines counter at the Portland airport on November 24, 1971.

After boarding, he bought a bourbon and soda as he waited for Flight 305 to take off.

Once in the air, he handed the flight attendant a note:

He had a bomb, the note read – and Cooper wanted the flight attendant to take a seat next to him.
