New court records show that Ian Mitcham’s alcohol problems helped lead to police identifying him as a suspect in the 2015 slaying of Allison Feldman.

Scottsdale police said in court records released Wednesday that blood from Mitcham’s 2015 DUI arrest helped them establish a DNA profile for him that perfectly matched DNA found at the murder scene.

Police allege that Mitcham sexually assaulted Feldman with a beer bottle and strangled and bludgeoned her to death on Feb. 17, 2015, court records show. They also say the killer used bleach to cover his tracks.
